Winter Proposal Ideas
Winter is not a month for frolicking on the beach, spending hours sitting outside or for swimming, even in warmed indoor pools – but this does not make it a bad month at all. Think of hot chocolate steaming gently into the air, latte art so intricate you are sure it is some kind of magic, and cuddling up with a good book, a jigsaw puzzle or a favorite movie next to a cozy fire. And why not infuse even more magic into the season by opting for a winter proposal? Not only does this avoid the slight cliché of springtime proposals, but it opens up a whole new world of photo opportunities with which to make your announcement on social media! Here are some winter proposal ideas:
In the Snow
Wait until the first snow begins to fall and encourage them to go out with you for a lengthy walk, to get some fresh air, walk the dog or just get out of the house for a while. Then, at a carefully chosen and particularly beautiful spot, get their attention and drop to one knee as you ask the question, both of you gathering a light covering of fluffy white snow that will give everything an otherworldly appearance. Of course, do not attempt this in a blizzard – there is a huge difference between occasional gentle flakes spiraling around you and a flurry of stinging pellets so thick you can barely see each other!
Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Wait until some snow has fallen, and the world is covered with a crisp white blanket, looking both fresh and new and like a blank canvas – perfect for asking someone if they want to join you in filling up the blank canvas of future days and years together! You can even play the song, build a snowman to stand in for Parson Brown, and act out what your future nuptials will be like. Should they say yes, of course!
On Christmas or New Year’s Day
Picking your moment on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day might need the help of other family members to ensure that you get the time to position your partner and pop the question without an annoying niece or nephew wandering in or an overeager grandparent or uncle asking, ‘Did they say yes?’ before you’ve had a chance to even get down on one knee! Otherwise, it is an ideal moment to choose, as the whole family – perhaps both of them – will be gathered and you can share your happy news straight away.
Ice Skating
Popping the question while out ice skating is a surprisingly popular niche winter proposal option. There is something about sliding around on the ice, helping each other and stealing the opportunity for a quick kiss or cuddle as you go that lends itself particularly well to a proposal!
