The Berkey Pro Care Maintenance Kit includes everything you need to take proper care of your Berkey water filter system. Just like any other machine, a water filter needs regular maintenance and cleaning to keep it running at peak efficiency. This kit includes Pro Care instructions, one set of Scotch Brite pads for scrubbing the inside of the upper chamber, two synthetic black Berkey scrub brushes for cleaning the spigot and PF-2 filters, one tube of food grade silicone grease for lubricating the lid’s O-ring seal and plugging, and a sample packet of Berkey PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic filters. To keep your system running at peak performance, it is recommended that you clean your system after every 3.5 gallons of water filtered or every 1,000 gallons of water filtered, whichever comes first. To ensure adequate cleaning and sanitation of the system, it is important to use a non-toxic cleanser. We recommend using a non-toxic cleanser such as white vinegar or Berkey Earth®. Never use bleach or cleansers containing chlorine with your Berkey system. The Black Berkey filters have been tested to remove a minimum of 99.9999999% of viruses and 99.9999% of pathogenic bacteria. While the filters are very effective in removing these pathogens, removing them from the filter is important for long-term filter life.
All water filters need to be cleaned occasionally to remove contaminates that cannot be removed by the filter itself. These contaminates include sediment and particulates that have built up on the outside of the elements and reduced flow rate. This “pro care kit” includes cleaning brushes, polishing cloth and a tube of food-grade lubricant. The brushes are used to clean the outside of each element, the polishing cloth is used to wipe off the food-grade lubricant applied with each clean (keeping your mouth free from any residue), and the food-grade lubricant is used to remove any contaminants still clinging to the elements after they’ve been brushed. The Berkey pro care maintenance kit is the only accessories kit specifically designed for the Big Berkey system. The kit includes a cleaning brush, one stainless steel wire scrubbing pad, and two sets of PF 2 filter replacement elements with four filters in each set.
The filter cleaning brush is specially designed to fit inside the Big Berkey water filter housing to help you clean the inner walls of your filter elements. This is an essential item as it helps to maintain the integrity and life of your Big Berkey system by preventing the build-up of calcium, rust and other contaminants.
The stainless steel wire scrubbing pad can be used to remove any residue from your stainless steel outer shell. The included PF 2 filter replacement elements can be used to replace your existing PF 2 filter elements or serve as backup for future use.
