A neurologist has to graduate from medical school, complete an internship and they also have to be excepted to a residency program that focuses on neurology. The residency program is a great way for them to put into practice what they have learned during their time in medical school. It is also the perfect time to gain the necessary experience needed to properly help outpatients.
A neurologist can work with a patient who is experiencing muscle weakness, dizziness, experiencing confusion frequently, and who may have coordination problems as well. They may also see patients who may suffer from seizures, epilepsy, severe headaches and migraines, strokes, Alzheimer’s disease, and any other type of neurological disorders. Most of these disorders are usually diagnosed by a radiologist through CT scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, or MRIs. Once they have been diagnosed or referred to by a radiologist, the neurologist needs to come up with a treatment plan. A radiologist is not certified to come up with a treatment plan because they are only certified to come up with the diagnosis.
