How to Continue Work Out Routine While Travelling
Staying fit while you’re traveling can be a challenge. Whether you’re traveling for business or for pleasure, getting yourself to work out is a hassle. You’re either too tired or too relaxed, so even the thought of your work out routine makes you want to crawl back in bed and never get up. So, how can you prevent that feeling, or at least fight it, when you’re on your trip?
Here are some useful tips that will help you stay on track with your fitness routine.
Pack your favorite workout clothes
If you’re on the mission to work out on your trip – make room for your workout clothes in your suitcase. No, don’t pack that t-shirt that can be worn both as a sleeping shirt and a workout shirt. Because, let’s face it, you’re only going to sleep in it. Choose your favorite ones, the ones that make you feel like a fitness god/goddess when you wear it. That applies to your workout pants, too. If you pack properly and make room for your favorite fitness clothes, you’ll probably feel bad for not working out even once on your trip, so this will give you a good push towards your goal. Do bear in mind that you’ll need a pair of extra comfy shoes for this, so choose wisely. Luckily, Walk Jog Run did a series of reviews on different kinds of shoes, so pop over on their site and find the best ones for yourself.
Carefully plan your trip
We’ll make a wild guess here and say that you’re already into careful planning if you’re here, reading on how to stay fit during your trip. Nevertheless, if you’re planning on working out during your trip – organize your time. Make a list of all the things you’d like to see and do while you’re there. Check how much time will that take out of your day and what time of the day you’ll be there. Accordingly, organize your work out schedule and stick to it. Let’s say you like working out in the morning, but want to go on a morning cruise – plan an early night and get up earlier, so you don’t miss your work out.
Stay motivated with a fitness app
It’s hard staying motivated to work out during a trip, it really is. So, getting a little push every now and then is good. There’s really a plethora of fitness apps that will help you stay motivated while you’re traveling. You can choose between the apps that will track your health, that will suggest work out routines for you, even the ones that will just motivate you to keep on going. These can also be helpful with tracking your eating habits, which can get out of control while you’re traveling.
Pick a hotel with a fitness center
Picking a hotel with a really nice fitness and spa center can actually make you want to work out. Imagine having a good work out session in a great gym, then having a well-deserved relaxing time in the jacuzzi and sauna. Or getting a relaxing massage afterward. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Okay, it sounds good even without the “working out” part, but trust us on the “well-deserved” part. Either way, it’s easier to get motivated to work out in a gym, than in your hotel room (which is also highly recommended). Even if the hotel doesn’t have a fitness center within its grounds, you can always check at the reception if there are any facilities nearby available for the guests.
Choose active sightseeing
If you’re not into working out during your travels, but would like to stay fit, that too, can be done. Choosing to rent a bike to sightsee, rather than hopping on a bus is a great way to see the city and burn some calories at the same time. Going on free walking tours (great for your wallet, too) or on hiking adventures nearby, are all great ways to stay fit. Basically – walk, walk, walk! Do bear in mind that you’ll need a pair of extra comfy shoes for this, so choose wisely.
