Some Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Smelling Fresh
Simply because bathrooms are the most used rooms in the house, there is always a tendency that they smell. This is further aggravated by the fact that they are normally small and have small windows. The moisture after baths or showers sometimes leaves a smell even after you’ve cleaned it.
There are several methods to freshen up the bathroom, some are natural and others more chemical based. Many chemical based solutions do not actually remove the odours, rather they mask it and it is still there after the aroma wears away.
So, how do we have a nice-smelling bathroom?

Ventilate
This is the quickest and easiest way to freshen your bathroom. You need to get the air circulating especially after a bath or shower. Open a window if possible or use a fan. This is also important to prevent damp and mildew from forming. If you have a ventilation fan, then make sure that you clean it every six months or more often in humid weather.
Use fruit
Lemons are an excellent way to remove odours naturally. Place a small bowl of sliced lemons in your bathroom for a lemony smell and no odours.
Use alcohol
Vodka is well-known for removing smells. Use one part vodka to three parts of water, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and place in a spray bottle. Use whenever needed to keep the air fresh.
Baking soda
This is also good for placing in the fridge to remove smells. Place a few teaspoons in a container and leave it there to absorb smells. You will need to give it a stir every so often to help the effectiveness.
Essential oils
If vodka does not appeal to you, you can use essential oils on their own. Dab a few drops onto a cloth or sponge and leave near the toilet. The essential oils will have a fresh-smelling aroma of your favourite plant. Lavender is excellent as is citrus of any type.
Odour eliminators
There is a difference between air fresheners and odour eliminators. Air fresheners will only mask a bad smell while an eliminator will remove it. Make sure you check the label before buying and see that it states the product is an odour eliminator and not just a freshener.
Air purifiers
These are plug-in devices which help to increase circulation in the room. They can be very expensive, although you will find some that are less pricey. Because the bathroom is a small room, they will be effective here.
Try a desiccant
Desiccants are normally a dry ingredient which is known to absorb moisture and smells. You will find them made of things like silica gel. The disadvantage of these products is that they are harmful and can even be toxic if swallowed by kids or pets.
You can keep the desiccant in a small container with holes in the top and on a high shelf out of reach or curious fingers.
Natural desiccants are plants, and these will do a great job or removing smells while looking attractive. Ferns are a good option as well as Aloe Vera.
