3 Tips for Dressing For a First Date
Anyone who’s ever been on a first date can tell you it’s nothing short of nerve wracking. First dates are a lot of pressure, and that’s why it’s important that you look your best. However, striking a balance between too formal or too casual isn’t always easy. If you come across too fancy, then chances are you’re going to look desperate.
However, come off too casual, and you risk seeming like you’re not making any effort. The key is finding the perfect balance between all of the right elements. If you’re planning a first date, then here are some tips to help you put together the perfect outfit.
Dress For The Occasion
Not every destination is going to have the same dress code. If you’re going to a formal dinner, you should probably dress a little more upscale, whereas if you’ll be sitting at your dining room table at home, you’re probably not going to need to put on high heels in a gown.
The setting will play a significant role in your outfit choice. Pay attention to the venue, and perhaps most importantly what it is that you’ll be doing. Certain outfits are more suited for sitting down, while others are more suited for walking around and standing.
You should also consider whether you’ll be outside or not. Certain weather conditions will call for certain outfits.
Be Yourself Yet…. Put Some Effort In
It’s important that you’re comfortable and you stay true to your own style! However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to show up in sweatpants and a t-shirt. Being true to yourself can also mean putting a little bit of effort in to show that you care about this person and the impression you make.
Make sure that you choose something that reflects your personality, but also doesn’t say “I don’t want to be here.” Showing that you’ve put thought into your look and your appearance will speak volumes about you as a person. Small little details like accessorizing or wearing well fitted clothes can make a significant difference in the outcome of your date…. believe it or not.
Prioritize Comfort
No matter how stylish your outfit is, if you’re not comfortable, then you’re not going to look and feel your best. It’s going to show if you’re feeling restricted or uncomfortable. Choose pieces that don’t just fit well but allow you to move naturally. If you’re wearing new shoes and they’re killing your feet, then you’re not going to have the same stride as shoes that you feel good in. Being comfortable will help put your best foot forward—literally! So make sure that you choose comfort over fashion if you’re forced to opt for one or the other.
