Places to Visit and Activities in Frankfort

Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky, or you can say it is the heart of Kentucky and soul of Kentucky, located at the rivers of Kentucky river known for its horses and wine. It has beauty and big ideas. It has its own small town charm with a rich history and fabulous architecture such as the Old capital building and the Old governor mansion which are open to the public. Though all the places are worth visit in Frankfort but some of the places holds a historic landmark and are listed below:

1. Buffalo Trace Distillery


The most award-winning bourbon is a historic landmark. The state spirit is distilled and is aged over here for more than 150 years. This distillery includes five tours from behind the scene of whiskey making to storing them in the barrel used to store and age the product. All tours to this distillery are free and include a free sample also; it is open all days except some major holidays. A group of 25 people is required to reserve the tour in advance.

2. Floral clock


The floral clock is one of the most visited attractions of Frankfort and is open for all from dawn to dusk. It was commissioned by the governor in 1961, whose face is stretched around 34 feet and is covered by exclusive flowers grown in Kentucky. There is a pool beneath the clock which is for wishing well and the coins thrown in the pool are used to fund the scholarship. It is a beautiful clock admired by the tourist.

3. Kentucky Derby


This is the topmost Louisville attraction. kentucky derby museum is not only engaged but also educate the visitors about the history of this museum; it showcases the rich history and the tradition of the event. This museum features the Guinness book of world record the largest horseshoe, thorough bed and the miniature horse which have attracted the tourist from all over the world. Entry to the museum includes the walking tour of Church hill Down Racetrack, the most significant race exhibition and access to all the temporary and permanent exhibits and display.

4. Cove Spring Park


This park is located at the outskirt of Frankfort. It is a 240-acre nature preserve park that consist of many waterfalls, wetlands and springs and many other historical features such as trembling limestone overflow tower. This park is best for hiking and have six trails total of three miles together environmental, educational and nature observation. There is an elevated walkway over wetlands and interpretative display on the historical and natural features of the park.

5. Rialto Square Theatre


This theatre is far from ordinary; it has turned into a vintage wedding venue. With a high ceiling, modern lighting and art track system it is so big that it can easily accommodate any size wedding large or lavish or romantic to intimate. This venue gives you a lot of opportunities to experiment with design, décor, catering, and entertainment.

The best time to visit this city is between April to September. This is the time when you get mild temperatures, and all the parks are in their full glory. In December this city host one of the Germany biggest Christmas party. Not only in these time you can see locals also in full force over here exploring city’s parks, museums, and walkways. There are many hotels suitable for all type of budget from 3star to 5star; service apartments are also available for cheap renting. Though the flight is long, still you will not be able to stop yourself from getting mesmerized y the historic beauty and the small town charm, there is so much to explore that something is always left for another trip. Being a tourist destination the main source of income is tourism over here, people here are also engaged in agriculture, fishing, hunting, and forestry.
