Gout – Diet, Symptoms, Treatment
Gout otherwise called gout or arthritis. It is associated with disorders of uric acid metabolism, which arises from purines. The cause of gout is usually impaired excretion of uric acid into the lumen of the urethra. The impairment occurs due to decreased filtration of uric acid.
We also distinguish a secondary form of gout, which is caused by increased production of uric acid due to leukemia, haemolytic anemia. The secondary gout may occur as a result of cell disintegration due to radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Also, starving or kidney disease cause the secondary form of this disease. I am talking here primarily about kidney failure, ketoacidosis. According to doctors, the widespread use of diuretics contributes to the formation of secondary gout.
How to recognize gout?
The initial phase of gout gives no symptoms. Reaching later its stage begins with a sudden strong attack, which takes the form of acute pain in one of the joint, fewer rarely. The gout attack usually occurs in the morning.
It is worth mentioning that we distinguish several specific types of attacks dependent on the occurrence of pain
Disregarding the disease can bring nasty consequences in the form of gnat nodules. These are uric acid deposits that are found in soft tissues. Not treated gout also causes bone defects. People struggling with gout suffer from diseases of the urinary tract such as urolithiasis and nephropathy.
Diagnosis of gout
In order to recognize that the ailments described above are caused by the occurrence of gout, a laboratory test should be performed in the form of uric acid test as well as a radiological examination.
Detection of uric acid crystals in the synovial fluid or in soft tissue material is synonymous with gout diagnosis. The patient is also subjected to a biological test with colchicine, when I arise doubts as to the determination of an unambiguous diagnosis. However, it is worth mentioning the side effects that colchicine may cause. We mean the risk of urolithiasis or blockage of the kidneys.
Treatment of gout
In the case of a gout attack, the treatment consists in reducing the inflammation. Drugs which are given are for example colchicine or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
In order to lower the level of uric acid in the blood, an appropriate diet is used, which you can read in the next chapter of the article. When the diet does not bring the desired results, allopurinol is often administered, which is a drug inhibiting xanthine oxidase, and also blocks the transformation of xanthine and hypoxanthine to uric acid.
Treatment of gout is closely related to the treatment of complications in the form of the rehabilitation of the motor system, the operation of removing large nodules or treating kidney damage.
As we already know, this is due to the accumulation of uric acid, which crystals accumulate in the joints and cause inflammation in them. Uric acid is produced by the degradation of purines, which are present in the tissues of the body and many other products, especially in red meat and alcohol.
The pineapple fruit, which contains bromeline, may also be helpful when attacking gout. It is an enzyme that breaks down proteins, helping to reduce pain during a gout attack. Pineapple should be eaten between meals, because with another food, it will be consumed on food digestion.
In gout it is recommended to drink a large amount of still water, which helps to flush out uric acid from the body.
The folk method for fighting the bottoms is undoubtedly cherries, which contain ingredients that help neutralize uric acid in the blood. They also have anti-inflammatory properties. So if we feel that gout attack is coming, let’s reach for the cherries as soon as possible.
Hypertension and high cholesterol
Diuretics prescribed for high blood pressure, such as diuretics, help to remove excess water from the body, and on the other hand, reduce urinary uric acid. Niacin and nicotinic acid, which are prescribed to lower bad cholesterol, also contribute to gout. It is worth bearing in mind, especially if you are ill with the diseases described above.
