7 Tips to Make Moving House Easier

Moving house can be a difficult task, not only do you have to find somewhere new to live but you have to pack everything. Moving house usually takes a lot more work than you realize but you can make it easier on yourself. Take a look at the tips from Blackhawk movers – trusted Oakland moving company and use them so moving house is easier and less stressful:

1. Create a Checklist

First things first, create a checklist of what you’re going to do and the order you’re going to do them in. Keep this checklist somewhere safe so you can refer to it whenever you need to. Think about all the jobs you need to do and when you need to do them.

Don’t be afraid to add new things to the checklist or change the order of the items you have on there. Just make sure you’re organized so your move goes smoothly. Reading the rest of the tips will help you to understand what you need to do. Completing everything on the list will be very satisfying.

2. Donate Anything you Don’t Want or Need

Now it’s time for you to go through all of your things. Think about those things you want to take with you to your new home. Donate anything you no longer want or need. A charity could sell those unwanted items and make a nice bit of money. If a charity can’t or won’t take some of your items you may want to consider selling them in a yard sale instead.

3. Start Packing Now

The sooner you pack your things the less work you will have to do when you move. Don’t leave packing until the last minute, instead, start as soon as you can. Pack all of those things you know you’re not going to use in the next few months. Don’t forget to clearly label the boxes so you know what they contain. You may also want to label the boxes with the name of the room that they need to go in.

4. Hire a Team of Movers

You may have decided to move everything yourself but this could be a mistake. Unless you’re moving across the street or across the hall you’ll need a team of movers.

Think about how much furniture you have and how many boxes you’ll have to lift onto the back of a truck. Moving all of your things is likely to take all day even if you don’t have very many belongings.

Start looking for some movers now so you can book them ASAP. The sooner you book some movers the sooner you can stop worrying about finding someone to help you move.

5. Notify People of Your New Address

You will now need to tell people when you’re going to move and where you’re moving to. While some people won’t need to know until after you have moved there are those who need to know now. Contact your utility providers and let them know as soon as you can. You will also need to tell schools, a kindergarten, and anything else you consider essential such as your place of work and your bank.

6. Put an ‘Essentials’ Box Together

The ‘Essentials’ box should contain all of those things that you’ll need on the day of your move. If you’re moving across the country you may need a few essential boxes. Place medication, a change of clothes, food, phone chargers, and anything else you need in the box. Make sure you can get to everything you need before the movers arrive. Pack the essential box or boxes into your car so they don’t end up on the truck.

Don’t forget to add drinks, snacks, toilet roll, books, games, and anything else you’re likely to need.

7. Update your Driver’s License

If you are moving to another state you’ll have to update your driver’s license. There are many different states out there that require you to update or get a new driver’s license as quickly as you can. Some states allow you a certain number of days to change your license so make sure you do it in good time.

You will need to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles’ office to do this. You’ll also need to take some identification with you so make sure you’re aware of what they need. Find out what they need before you go to the office as it will save you time.
